Still on the look out for nice nursery curtain fabric, I stumbled across Fabric Inspiration which is host to a terrific collection of original (I think) fabrics from the 60s and 70s. Some crazy patterns going on here which I’m finding very inspirational. Even if I can’t use these for curtains I’ll buy some anyway and then think of a use later.
Here are a few that really caught my eye…..

As well as being a fan of all things 1950s, I also have quite a fascination of 19th Century/Victorian design - architecture in particular. We are lucky to have plenty of elegant Victorian buildings here in Hove, and following a tour of one of them - Palmeira Mansions, I took up the invitation to help with some much needed restoration of this opulent building.
Here is a brief history of the building as found on the site of the English Language Centre who have owned this place since 1962.
“Number 33 Palmeira Mansions was purchased in 1889 by Arthur William Mason at the age of twenty-nine. A widower after the tragic death of his first wife, he moved into the house with a young daughter Christina.
In the early years of living at the house Mr Mason used the family fortune to refurbish the interior in a lavish eclectic mix of fixtures (the best that money could buy)”
It is one of these lavish rooms that I am currently restoring; carefully cleaning the ceiling of it’s tobacco stains and general dirt. Here are a few shots of the process. It’s a long but very satisfying task but we need a load more help to get it completely back to its former glory. You are welcome to get in touch with me if you fancy lending us a hand - no experience necessary, just a fairly good head for heights that would be useful to clamber up the scaffolding to the ceiling!

Just enough time before I pack up the computer and move into my new home. I’ll be away from the desk so there won’t be any posting for a few days - no change there you may think! I promise to update as much as possible once settled in to the new studio/spare room.
Here’s a funny image from the 50s as seen on Plan59 - it shows a vision of the home of the future with all it’s mod cons, actually not that far fetched. I’ll be experiencing my first home with a dishwasher - that’s high-tech enough for me!
Must dash - less than 24 hours til we’re out and lots of packing and cleaning still to do.
Back soon!
This simple scene put a little joy in my heart (plus some cholestoral) what a lovely colour combination mmmmm! so good infact it occurs to me I have already used this colour scheme for a giclee print soon to be printed and then available on Etsy.

This Saturday Tooveys Auction house in Washington, West Sussex are holding their annual contemporary art auction. I’m joining in the fun this year and have submitted a couple of my most popular screen prints. It all kicks off at 6pm, I’ll be there but I expect I’ll leave the room and cringe as we wait for the bids to come in (or not) on my pieces!
The event is open to anyone to bid and the estimates are starting at around the £100 mark, so you could bag yourself a bargain.
